Kuala Lumpur

Size:
28.6cm x 14.8cm

Description:
Today, the KL city skyline is dominated by the monuments to the boom that followed, not least by the Petronas Twin Towers (at right). Petronas is Malaysia's National Petroleum company, and the building's vast towers are an indicator of just how important a role oil money has played in driving the country's shift from a commodities-based economy to one where manufacturing and high-tech now dominate. In the centre of the photo is the KL Tower, the tallest tower in Southeast Asia, and the 4th tallest of its kind in the world. KL Tower was erected as a telecommunication tower. The 421-meter tower has a unique revolving restaurant, an observation deck, pedestrian mall and an amphitheater.

Surrounding KL Tower is the Golden Triangle, known as Kuala Lumpur's commercial, shopping and entertainment hub, is actually a large area that encompasses a number of major streets. Three roads- Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Chulan form a triangle which borders the entire Golden Triangle area. Here, towering scrapers, shopping malls and world-class hotels pierce the landscape.
